is provided for guests to accompany the skipper, and the
aft section features a wet bar, thus giving certain inde-
pendence with regard to the galley when at anchor or
underway. Particularly outstanding is the arch suppor-
ting the hardtop which gives shade and protection to the
centre of the flybridge. The pronounced forward slant of
the T-top bestows vivacity and space, whilst the canvas
sheet can be rolled back to let sunlight in and make the
space even airier. Such is the slant that two stainless steel
supports have been fitted at the very front of the T-top.
Lower deck
A staircase located to starboard of the helm station leads
to a hallway, off which the four cabins of the Astondoa
72 GLX are placed. The full-beam owner’s suite mids-
hips is a privileged place to be, with large windows loo-
king out, a king-size bed, an ensuite on one side and a
luxurious sofa on the other. Décor is in keeping with the
rest of the yacht, with wooden furniture and light walls
and ceilings. A VIP suite forward and two twin guest
cabins complete the accommodation on this boat.
Aft of the master suite lies the large engine room,
accessed from the aft deck via a small door below the
flybridge staircase. This vast space is home to all the te-
chnical equipment, including twin 21kWKohler gene-
rators, and is a dream come true for the chief engineer
and anyone involved in maintenance works. Further aft
is the garage, also very spacious, which can house a RIB
and all the toys the owner could wish for. Also in this
section is the crew cabin.
The yard offers twin 1224hp MAN engines as stan-
dard, or the option of 1360hp upgrades, which deliver
a top speed of 28 knots and 24-25 knots when cruising,
according to data provided by Astondoa.

Blohm + Voss
Graceful... and
cutting-edge
T
he latest superyacht launched by Hamburg-based
yard Blohm + Voss measures 82 metres and has a beam
of 13.9 metres and a draft of 3.75. With a range of
5,500 miles, she can reach a top speed of 17.6 knots.
One of the most outstanding technical aspects of this
unit created by H2 Yacht Design is her 15x3m indoor
pool which can be converted into a dance floor by rai-
sing the pool floor. In addition to a separate owner’s
area with a duplex suite and direct access to the sea via
a folding balcony, the yacht boasts two VIP staterooms
and three guest suites.

68-metre project
I
talian shipyard CRN, part of the Ferretti Group, is to
build its largest yacht ever. Commissioned by a Chi-
nese client, the 68-metre motoryacht with a beam of
12.5 metres is due to be delivered in 2017. Designed
by Zuccon International Project, this fully-customised
steel and aluminium project will feature an innovative
floodable garage allowing the tender to enter the water
without a crane. This system was initially introduced on
the 60-metre J’Ade, but is the first time it will be used
on a yacht of this size. The garage transforms a technical
space into an out-an-out beach club to be enjoyed by the
owner and guests. CRN is currently building four alumi-
nium yachts: a 74-metre designed by Zuccon Internatio-
nal Project; a 73-metre penned by Omega Architects; a
60-metre styled by Francesco Paszkowski Design, and a
55-metre yacht in conjunction with Nuvolari & Lenard.
Also on the boards are a 124-foot Ferretti Custom Line
and an all-aluminium Riva Mythos 122-footer.
Galatea
D
utch shipyard Heesen recently delivered to her owners
the all-aluminium semi-displacement superyacht Gala-
tea, created by naval architects Van Oossanen and with
interior/exterior design by Omega Architects.
The 40-metre yacht, with a beam of 8 metres and a
draft of 2.35 metres, displaces 203 tons and is powered
by twin MTU 16V 4000 M73L engines each delivering
2280kW. She can reach a top speed of 27.5 knots at half
load and boasts a range of 2,200 miles at 12 knots, thanks
to her tanks storing 36,000 litres of fuel and 8,000 li-
tres of water. Onboard electrical needs are covered by
two 50kW Kilo-Pak generators, and she is fitted with
hydraulically-driven 63kWHydromar bowthrusters and
Active Interceptor System stabilisers, plus zero-speed
Seakeeper gyro-stabilisers. Indoors, Galatea features a
full-beam master suite on the fore main deck, plus two
VIP doubles and a further two twin cabins on the lower
deck. Crew are accommodated on the fore lower deck
in four cabins with two heads. She is built to ABS A1
Yachting Service AMS classification.
