T
his brand new 24-metre hull from Italian ship-
yard Azimut, premiered at the end of June, forms
part of the firm’s Flybridge collection, which compri-
ses a total of 13 models from 40 to 100 feet in length,
the smallest being the Azimut 40 and the largest be-
ing the superb Azimut 100 Leonardo.
The Azimut 80, though, is the first 72-foot-plus
yacht designed and completed entirely at the yard’s
main facility in Avigliana, Italy. Measuring a total of
25.2 metres including the bathing platform, the Azi-
mut 80 offers four cabins and five heads, as well as a
further two fully-equipped crew cabins.
Boasting a contemporary style, the interiors of this
model are work of the Italian studio Achille Salvagni
Architetti, whilst exterior styling was carried out by
the firm’s regular collaborator Stefano Righini. Just
as you’d expect, the Azimut engineers have conveyed
all the yard’s savoir faire on to this yacht, including
solutions which had previously only been applied to
larger models, regarding both construction itself and
the technology found within the safety, electronic and
engine systems.
Harmony with the sea
The goal of maximum integration with the seascape
has been achieved by excluding architectural barriers
which might have hindered outdoor enjoyment in the
communal midships areas and also in the private quar-
ters of the lower deck. Azimut pulled off this feat of
engineering thanks to specially-designed panoramic
side windows that stretch from bow to hull without
structural interruptions, which allow light to flood
into the interiors and also guarantee guests on the
main deck a 360º view of everything going on.
The same happens below decks, where large vertical
ports placed midships deliver light and views to the
owner’s stateroom and also prove to be a unique fea-
ture of the entire collection. What’s more, this parti-
cular model sports two further horizontal windows in
the VIP stateroom, giving the same sensation of being
in constant harmony with the sea.
However, if something is to be highlighted about
the exteriors, formal and aesthetic aspects asides, it is
the kinship achieved between space and functionality.
Most eye-catching is the huge 42-square-metre fly-
bridge, not only for its size but also its layout, which
allows for an array of uses. Take, for example, the large
hardtop with an electronically-controlled sliding cen-
tre, which makes this a highly desirable place to be,
both underway and at anchor, in good or bad weather,
during the day or at night. Next to the upper helm
station, which itself features two individual bucket
seats, there is a wraparound L-shaped sofa which can
be doubled in size to be used as a guest space or a
sunbathing area.
To aft, another space features a semicircular sofa
around an eight-seater dining table. It goes without
saying that to avoid those irksome trips up and down
to the main deck, there’s also a full wet bar here, fitted
with barbeque, fridge and sink, as well as a 42-inch
pop-up TV screen that serves as the base of the bar.
Heading further aftwards, the owner has free rein
over how the flybridge is rendered, as the yard chose
to offer full flexibility in terms of its layout: it can
be left unencumbered, furnished with sun loungers or
moveable sofas, reserved for the tender, fitted with a
hot tub, or simply set aside as a further sundeck. The
yard also offers the possibility of extending the shade
cast by the flybridge by fitting a rolling awning aft.
Daytime areas are aplenty. This is seen at the bow,
where there is a 4-person sunpad and table from
which to enjoy the foredeck whilst underway, at an-
chor or for extra privacy when berthed at a marina.
Neither can we forget the nine-square-metre bathing
platform, which provides the perfect launch pad for a
four-metre-plus tender or jet skis. What’s more, the
teak-floored cockpit is fully shaded by the flybridge
overhang and boasts an L-shaped sofa and moveable
armchairs, ideal for guests to savour an alfresco dinner,
with the added extra of a serving bar right next to the
aft bulkhead of the salon.
Refined interiors
The interior styling of the Azimut 80 is contempo-
rary, with soft and bright leather furnishings, ma-
jestic materials and modern touches, with marble in
the bathrooms, grey-bleached oak offset with darker
woodwork accents, and painted detailing on the vast
skylights and windows, which themselves provide ai-
riness to the four-cabin accommodation area.
The starboard cabin has two single beds with the
option of a third fold-down bed and features an en-
suite with separate shower. As we mentioned above,
in the fore VIP stateroom there are panoramic win-
dows on each side. The bed is set centrally with the
