elhouse, amidships there is a living-dining area shaded
by the hardtop and flanked by a large barbeque/service
unit, and to aft is a sunbathing area with loungers and
chaises longues. Advantage is also taken of this model’s
extra length in other outdoor areas, such as the bathing
platform that measures a full 60 centimetres more and
can stow, hoist and launch a 3.85-metre tender.
The stern also offers a large space for alfresco dining
and a forward-facing sofa that can be used for sun wors-
hipping or simply relaxing and socialising.
On the spacious foredeck protected by a high han-
drail, guests also enjoy a sunpad and a forward-facing
sofa to enjoy the sea air, accessible from both sides by
wide and well-protected walkways.

We’ve already mentioned that the idea of the Magella-
no 76 is to provide a yacht capable of setting out on
any type of voyage in utmost comfort, thanks specifi-
cally to the unique hull design. However, this wouldn’t
be possible if it weren’t for the engines, equipment and
machinery that make this a totally reliable and suitable
boat for all types of cruising. Powered by twin 1,000hp
MAN engines, the 76 can be fitted with stabilisers and
comes with two 20kWKohler generators and dual-duct
air-conditioning and fan coils in each space. Every piece
of machinery is mounted on rubber bushing to minimi-
se vibrations and perceived noise levels. On a boat like
this, onboard systems must be organised and well engi-
neered in order to guarantee an ocean-going range. To
do so, the shipyard has taken great care in organising all
cables, conduits and systems so that they can be easily
identified and accessed for inspection and repair.

Heesen Yachts Galactica Star
T
he 65-metre
Galactica Star
is the first model in
Dutch shipyard Heesen’s revolutionary Fast Dis-
placement series. This all-aluminium yacht received
many awards at the 2013 Monaco Yacht Show for her
innovative forms, technical specifications and reduced
environmental impact. The hull design was work of
Van Oossanen Naval Architects, whilst the sleek and
elegant exterior lines were created by Frank Laupman
from Omega Architects and her sophisticated interiors
were penned by Bannenberg and Rowell Design.
With a beam of 11.3 metres,

dis-
places 560 tonnes and is powered by twin 5,762hp
(4300kW) MTU 20V 4000 engines. The yacht boasts
a range of 4,200 miles at 27 knots, can carry 90,000 li-
tres of fuel and is fitted with a 175kW main generator
and two 99kW and 80kW auxiliary generators, as well
as Seakeeper Gyro 2600 Zero Speed stabilisers.
The owner’s suite is placed on the upper deck, whilst
on the lower deck there are four double cabins and a
VIP stateroom.

Superyacht Design project
T
he Zuccon Superyacht Design studio recently un-
veiled the 92 SYD Discovery Project, a cutting-ed-
ge 92-metre explorer yacht based on the pre-existing SD
90 naval platformwhich stands out not just for its design
concept, but also its innovative layout. With a beam of
13.5 metres, the 92 Discovery boasts six decks, of which
the lower two are earmarked for technical spaces and
crew, with the exception of the sternmost section which
features a beach club and spa with two large transom
windows to enjoy views whilst underway. The main deck
sports a living area with cinema, whilst the six guest ca-
bins and two VIP staterooms – with their own private
terrace – are placed to the aft of this deck. Two ten-metre
tenders are stowed at the extreme stern, in addition to
toys and further tenders on the lower deck. The upper
deck is home to the main salon, a sunbathing area with
bar, a covered dining area and another salon, as well as an
indoor-outdoor dining area further aft connected to the
previous one. There is a helipad at the extreme bow and
the second upper deck is dedicated entirely to the owner.
And finally, on the bridge deck we find the pilothouse,
the captain’s cabin and an open-air deck for crew.
